How to prepare your hair for lightening

Hair lightening in our salon — before and after: warm, grown-out blonde taken to a cool, pearl shade

Balayage and AIR TOUCH start long before your appointment. A few things that really decide how light a blonde we can safely achieve.

The most common disappointment with blondes does not come from someone applying the lightener badly. It comes from the hair simply not being able to take, on that day, the kind of lightening that was on the photo from the phone. That is why every bigger lightening service here starts with a free consultation — we look at the hair, check its history and only then say what can be done in one visit and what needs two.

Tell us what was on your hair before

This is the one piece of information that changes everything. Henna, box dye, a dark refresh six months ago, keratin straightening — each of these reacts differently to lightener. It is not about judging, it is about choosing the technique and the timing. Hair after henna can behave completely differently from how it looks when dry.

Two weeks before your appointment

  • Ease off heavy straightening and daily use of a hot flat iron — lightening is a strain in itself, let us not add to it.
  • Do a treatment or a mask once a week, but no silicone “fillers” on the day of your appointment.
  • Do not experiment with box dye to “even out the colour before the visit” — that usually adds work for us.

On the day

Come with hair washed the day before — the natural protective film on your scalp is simply more comfortable for you. Do not use oils or leave-in products. And give yourself time: bleaching or AIR TOUCH really means a few hours in the chair, and rushing is the worst adviser with light shades.

Consultation, colour test, decision — only then do we start.

Sometimes the answer is “in two visits”

If the hair has been through several colour services, it is more honest to split the lightening into two appointments and do a reconstruction in between than to squeeze everything out at once and send you home with a blonde that snaps in a month. We say that straight during the consultation — together with the price of both stages, so there are no surprises.

Would you like to talk it through in person?

The consultation is free. Mon–Fri 9:00–19:00, Sat 9:00–16:00.
